Shadows on the Wall (A comment on my life)

A-ko & B-ko: [Dressed in overalls, with painter's hats and big paintbrushes and buckets]: So much to do! So much to do!

A-ko: We'll paint this room blue, and the hall lavender, with butterflies!

B-ko: We need to strip the trim first!

A-ko: We need to put down the drop-cloths. Did you get everything from the store?

B-ko: [Produces enormous bag out of nowhere] Yes. Let's start in this room! [They pull large square sheets from the bag and fling them with abandon everywhere. A-ko produces an enormous ladder and sets it against the wall, then climbs up.]

[One of the sheets starts to move and presently reveals the black outline of a hideous emaciated monster underneath.]

B-ko [notices monster and points a trembling finger at it]: I think our house must be haunted!

A-ko: Don't be silly! There's no such thing as ghosts! Hand up the paint pot, will you?

B-ko: But look! [Absently hands up the paint pot to A-ko, who starts painting.]

A-ko: [Looking around at head height] I don't see anything. Stop being silly.

B-ko: Aie! [Flees, followed by the ghost. Hideous screaming and crunching offstage.]

A-ko: [Painting] B-ko, quit making those noises! You're not scaring me! Oh, and hand me the white paint for the trim, will you?

[A bony hand hands up the second paint pot.]

A-ko: Thanks. [Paints some more.] Hey, quit shaking the ladder. Hey -!!!!
